Mai Dhai interview

Mai Dhai interview.Mai Dhai (مائی ڈاہی) is a singer from the Thar desert who sings in her mother tongue Marawari (مارواڑی) . She also appeared in Coke Studio Season 8. Here Mai Dhai is talking to BBC Urdu.Something seriously needs to be done about ensuring the future of marwari and other rajasthani languages. Only one district in pakistan tharparker speaks a rajasthani group language heavily therefore im not too sure whether anything implemented by pakistan will be effective but rajasthani languages are spoken in india in rajasthan state as well as the malwa region of madhya pradesh state. But the problem is despite linguists of the world classifying rajasthani langs as their own seperate language group and even ethnologue lists them as a seperate language, the indian gov keeps wrongly insisting that rajasthani is just a dialect of hindi. It is not taught in schools even as an elective. This has resulted in the imminent death of an entire language group. In fact i would like to see some effort by pakistani gov too in relation to punjabi and at least make punjabi a mandatory subject from grades 1-10 as a start. Im getting tired of south asians in general continuosly depicting the punjab and rajput regions in blockbuster films and via those films using our regions and cultures as iconic images to present to the rest of the world about the whole of india or the whole of south asia but then when it comes to preserving our languages nobody cares.
